Mission of Mercy

Dedicated to the memory of a dear teacher, Sr. Mary Hugh Mauldin, RSM

The Mission of Mercy exhibit explores the role of the Sisters of Mercy in the Civil War. Featuring items from Civil War Trails; Find a Grave; Library of Congress; and the North Carolina Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, the exhibit includes three images, one sound recording, and two pieces of text. Its purpose is to pay homage to the 600-plus Sister-Nurses who eased the suffering of the sick and dying during this bloody time in American history. Created as a final project for a Digital Humanities course at the University of Southern Mississippi, the exhibit showcases the charitable contributions of the Sisters of Mercy in the 1860s.
